Fishing: a traditional Japanese culture known only to Japan experts
If you’re visiting Japan, why not try something a little more adventurous than the usual sightseeing?
Fishing is a traditional Japanese culture known only to Japan experts.
Today we’ll be introducing a hidden gem in Tokyo Bay, just a short distance from Haneda Airport!

Local Features
Haneda Airport is an international airport used by many people facing Tokyo Bay, and there are various tourist attractions in the surrounding area. The Tenkubashi Ryokuchi Park is a beautiful waterfront park where you can enjoy a stroll or a picnic while looking out at the airport, and the historical Otorii Gate, which is part of the former Haneda Shrine and has become a symbol of the area, is famous.
The Kawasaki Daishi temple is a famous Buddhist temple in Japan, famous for warding off evil and bringing good luck, and is popular with many tourists. The vast grounds include a magnificent pagoda and main hall, and visitors come to pray in the quiet. In particular, it is well known for the millions of people who visit for the first shrine visit of the New Year, and for the goma prayer ceremony to ward off evil. On the approach to the shrine, you can enjoy traditional Japanese sweets and souvenirs, such as the famous “Tontoko Ame” candy. It is also easily accessible from Haneda Airport, making it a great spot to experience Japanese culture!

Recommended fishing boat
The Tsuru fishing experience is what we would like to recommend at Haneda Airport this time.
Access is very convenient, and it takes about 10 minutes on foot from Haneda Airport or Tenkubashi Station to reach the fishing boat. It is easy to get there by train, so it is also perfect as a little adventure in between trips.
The captain and staff will teach you carefully so that even beginners can enjoy themselves with peace of mind, so women and children can also spend time there with peace of mind.
Of course, rental items are available, so you can participate without any worries!

Let’s start fishing!
The joy of fishing is the feeling of the sea breeze, the excitement of hooking a fish, and the sense of achievement you get when you land your catch. At Tsuru, you can try your hand at catching seasonal fish such as conger eel and cutlass fish, but the one we recommend is the golden horse mackerel. As its name suggests, this beautiful golden fish is a special target for anglers, but it’s also an easy fish for beginners to catch.

After fishing, head to one of our partner restaurants!
You may be wondering what to do with the fish you’ve caught, but don’t worry. After fishing, you can have the fish you’ve caught cooked at the nearby izakaya (Japanese-style pub) “Omatsuri Honpo”. Having a professional chef cook the fresh fish you’ve caught yourself and enjoying the taste is a special experience that can only be had in Japan.
The restaurant is about 30 minutes by train from the nearest station to Tsuru.

Fresh fish dishes and delicious sake
The freshness of the fish means that it doesn’t have that fishy smell, and the fresh, shiny flesh is mouth-watering.
As the saying goes, “golden horse mackerel is full of fat”, and with every bite, the clear fat oozes out and the flavor is amazing!

Freshly caught horse mackerel contains a lot of water in its flesh, and when it is deep-fried, the water swells the flesh as it tries to escape.
However, the batter acts as a lid, preventing the water from escaping, and it remains trapped inside along with the delicious flavor.
Therefore, you can enjoy a texture that overturns the general concept of deep-fried horse mackerel.

Finally
Fishing is not just about catching fish, but also about the sense of refreshment you get from being in nature and the satisfaction of obtaining your own food. Why not make your day in Kanazawa special with a fishing experience at Tsuru?
