Fishing: a traditional Japanese culture known only to Japan experts

If you come to Japan, why not try experiencing some of Japan’s traditional culture, rather than just visiting the tourist spots?
In fact, fishing is one of Japan’s traditional outdoor pastimes. The experience of fishing in beautiful seas is a special pleasure known only to those in the know.
You might think that fishing can only be done outdoors, but the “Fishing Restaurant ZAUO” in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, is a restaurant with a unique twist: not only can you enjoy fresh fish dishes, but there is also a large fish tank in the restaurant where you can catch your own fish and eat it deliciously!
There are multiple restaurants in Shinjuku, Shibuya, Yokohama, etc., and all of them are close to the nearest station!

Regional Characteristics

Tokyo is the capital of Japan. There are many tourist attractions in the city, and all of them are attractive, but here we will introduce “teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM”, which many foreign tourists visit and which is enjoyable for both families and individuals, and which you should visit at least once if you are visiting Tokyo!
TeamLab Planets TOKYO DMM is an interactive digital art museum located in Toyosu, Tokyo, offering visitors a new kind of art experience. Rather than just viewing art, the attraction is in the immersive experience of art that unites the body and mind!
There is an area in the facility known as the “Museum in the Water”, where you can experience art in a space with water up to your feet. The light and shadows reflected on the water’s surface, combined with your own movements, create the sensation of being lost in another world.
The lighting, sound and scents in the installation have all been carefully calculated to provide an immersive experience that makes you forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life. By immersing yourself in the artwork, you can refresh your mind and feel as if you are meditating!
This kind of experience can be enjoyed by both children and adults, so it is perfect for family trips, couples and trips with friends!

Recommended Fishing Restaurant

Access

We would like to recommend the fishing experience at ZAUO in Tokyo.
The access is very convenient, and it is within walking distance of Shinjuku Station, Shibuya Station, and Meguro Station in the center of Tokyo, as well as Tsunashima Station in Kanagawa Prefecture. You can also easily reach the fishing boats by train. It’s a great place to visit for a meal, or to go and try your hand at fishing for fun, and we recommend it as part of a trip!

Features

The main feature of ZAUO is that it has a huge fish tank inside the restaurant, so you can fish from your seat!
I don’t think there is anywhere else where you can fish in a cool indoor environment in summer and a warm indoor environment in winter except ZAUO!
Throw your fishing line into the fish tank in front of you and the fish you catch will be cooked by the professionals for you.
The staff at the restaurant will also work together to make your experience even more enjoyable! Of course, they will cheer you on when you catch a fish, but they will also be happy to give you advice on how to fish if you are having trouble catching one!

No worries for those with no fishing experience

Even if you’ve never fished before, don’t worry! The fishing rods at this shop can be rented for just 110 yen! It’s perfect for you and your family, especially for children!
However, depending on the shop, the fish may have become a bit slippery and it may be difficult to catch the fish you want… If that happens, ask the staff for some tips!

From entering the store to starting fishing!

To be sure to enter ZAUO, reservations are essential! (Reservations require Japanese, so if you would like to make a reservation, please send us a direct message! We will make a reservation for you!
Once you’ve entered the store and been shown to your seat, you can either start fishing straight away by casting your line from your seat, or you can tell the staff what kind of fish you want to catch and they’ll take you to the right place!
Eating the fish you catch is a special experience, but waiting for them to be caught can make you hungry. You can order from the main menu and eat while you fish, if you like!

What happens after you catch a fish?

To have the fish you catch cooked for you, report to the nearby staff that you have caught a fish!
At that time, you can tell them how you would like it cooked, so you can eat it the way you like! For example, sashimi, grilled fish, simmered fish, fried fish, sushi. However, please note that there is an extra processing fee for sushi!

Points to note

As there are many customers, it may be difficult to catch fish because they have already seen the bait, or you may not be able to catch the fish you want. It is best to go with the mindset that you can play and eat while in a comfortable environment
Also, you can’t return the fish you catch. This is because the fish will spoil. So, even if you don’t get the fish you wanted, please understand that you have to eat the fish you catch.

Personally, I would recommend going out fishing and having the fish you catch cooked at a restaurant that specializes in that type of fish!
Playing in the great outdoors is a liberating and exciting experience, and above all, you can’t wait to see what kind of fish you’ll catch!
The fish in the fish tanks are inevitably limited in variety, and from a management perspective, they tend to be more expensive… If you want to experience the atmosphere, I recommend it, but if you want to experience traditional Japanese fishing and enjoy it to your heart’s content, I recommend going out to sea and fishing from a boat!
By the way, we have introduced some recommended fishing boats in Tokyo on this page, so please refer to it if you like!

Finally,

Japanese fishing culture is inextricably linked to food. We have introduced a unique restaurant that allows you to enjoy both!
As you will be fishing from a live-box, the types of fish you can catch will be limited, but the experience of being able to eat while enjoying fishing in a comfortable indoor space will surely add a special touch to your trip.
However, fishing is one of Japan’s traditional cultures, and it is not just about catching fish. It is also a way to enjoy the feeling of refreshment you get from being in nature, and the sense of fulfillment you get from obtaining your own food. If you have come to Japan, why not go out on a boat into the great ocean and enjoy fishing to your heart’s content!
After fishing, take the fish you caught to a partner restaurant and enjoy a delicious meal of fresh fish while reminiscing about the day’s experience with your family and friends. I would like to propose such a luxurious experience that can only be enjoyed in Japan!
