Fishing: a traditional Japanese culture known only to Japan experts

If you come to Japan, why not try experiencing some of Japan’s traditional culture, rather than just visiting tourist spots?
In fact, fishing is one of Japan’s traditional outdoor activities. The experience of fishing in a beautiful sea is a special pleasure that only those who know Japan well will understand.
You might think that fishing can only be done outdoors, right? The “Fishing Restaurant ZAUO” in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, is a restaurant with a large fish tank inside where you can not only enjoy fresh fish dishes, but also fish and eat the fish you catch!
There are two other restaurants in Aichi Prefecture: the Hoshizaki branch and the Komaki branch!

Regional Characteristics

Aichi Prefecture is a city in Japan that is on a par with Tokyo and Osaka. The capital, Nagoya, has a variety of tourist attractions such as Ghibli Park and Legoland, and while all of them are attractive, here we will introduce Nagoya Castle, which many foreign tourists visit and which is enjoyable for families and individuals alike, and which you should visit at least once if you visit Aichi!
This castle, where history and culture intersect, was the residence of Ieyasu Tokugawa, the first person in Japan to unify the country, and has been a symbol of Nagoya for centuries. Built in the Edo period, Nagoya Castle is famous for its beautiful keep with its golden Shachihoko finial and its vast gardens.
Here, you can not only experience Japanese history, but also enjoy the beautiful scenery of each season. In spring, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, creating a spectacular view with the castle tower in the background. Also, the Nagoya Castle Honmaru Palace is a must-see spot that you should visit if you come to Japan, where you can experience the beauty of traditional architecture and the gorgeous sliding door paintings up close!

Recommended Fishing Restaurant

Access

We would like to recommend the fishing experience at ZAUO in Aichi Prefecture.
The access is very convenient, with the Hoshizaki branch being a 10-minute walk from Meitetsu Hoshizaki Station and the Komaki branch being a 10-minute drive from Meitetsu Komaki Station. Both are within 30 minutes of Nagoya Station, the capital of Aichi Prefecture. You can easily reach the fishing boats by train. It’s easy to get there by train, and you can experience fishing and eat at the same time in a comfortable indoor environment, so it’s a great place to visit for either a meal or a fun fishing experience as part of your trip!

Features

The main feature of ZAUO is that it has a huge tank in the restaurant, so you can fish from your seat!
I don’t think there is anywhere else where you can fish in a cool indoor environment in the summer and a warm indoor environment in the winter except ZAUO!
You can throw your fishing line into the fish tank in front of you and then have the fish you catch cooked by the professionals – it’s a really fun experience!
The staff at the restaurant will also get together to make the experience even more exciting for you! Not only will they congratulate you when you catch a fish, but they’ll also be happy to give you some tips on how to catch fish if you’re having trouble!

No worries for those with no fishing experience

Even if you’ve never fished before, don’t worry! The fishing rods at this shop can be rented for just 110 yen! It’s perfect for you and your family, especially for children!
However, depending on the shop, the fish may have become a bit slippery and it may be difficult to catch the fish you want… If that happens, ask the staff for some tips!

From entering the store to starting fishing!

To be sure to enter ZAUO, reservations are essential! (Reservations require Japanese, so if you would like to make a reservation, please send us a direct message! We will make a reservation for you!
Once you’ve entered the store and been shown to your seat, you can either start fishing straight away by casting your line from your seat, or you can tell the staff what kind of fish you want to catch and they’ll take you to the right place!
Eating the fish you catch is a special experience, but waiting for them to be caught can make you hungry. You can order from the main menu and eat while you fish, if you like!

What happens after you catch a fish?

To have the fish you catch cooked for you, report to the nearby staff that you have caught a fish!
At that time, you can also tell them how you would like it cooked, so you can eat it the way you like! For example, sashimi, grilled fish, simmered fish, fried fish, sushi. However, please note that there is an additional processing fee for sushi!

Points to note

As there are many customers, it may be difficult to catch fish because they have already seen the bait, or you may not be able to catch the fish you want. It is best to go with the mindset that you can play and eat while in a comfortable environment
Also, you cannot return the fish you have caught. This is because the fish will spoil. So, even if you don’t catch the fish you were hoping for, please be aware that you will have to eat the fish you do catch.

Personally, I would recommend going out fishing for real and having the fish you catch cooked at a restaurant that specializes in that type of fish!
Playing in the great outdoors is a great way to feel free and excited, and above all, you can look forward to seeing what kind of fish you will catch!
The fish in the fish tanks are inevitably limited in species, and from a management perspective, they tend to be more expensive… If you want to enjoy the atmosphere, I recommend it, but if you want to experience traditional Japanese fishing and enjoy it to your heart’s content, I recommend going out to sea and fishing from a boat!

Finally,

Japan’s fishing culture is inextricably linked to food. We have introduced a unique restaurant that allows you to enjoy both!
Since you will be fishing from a live-box, the types of fish you can catch will be limited, but the experience of being able to eat while experiencing fishing in a comfortable indoor space will surely add color to one page of your trip.
However, fishing is one of Japan’s traditional cultures, and it is not just about catching fish. It is also a way to enjoy the feeling of refreshment you get from being in nature, and the sense of fulfillment you get from obtaining your own food. If you have come to Japan, why not go out on a boat into the great ocean and enjoy fishing to your heart’s content!
After fishing, take the fish you caught to a partner restaurant and enjoy a delicious meal of fresh fish while reminiscing about the day’s experience with your family and friends. I would like to propose such a luxurious experience that can only be enjoyed in Japan!
