Fishing: a traditional Japanese culture known only to Japan experts

If you come to Japan, why not try experiencing some of Japan’s traditional culture, rather than just visiting tourist spots?
In fact, fishing is one of Japan’s traditional outdoor pastimes. The experience of fishing in a beautiful sea is a special pleasure known only to those in the know.
You might think that fishing can only be done outdoors, right? The “Fishing Restaurant ZAUO” in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, is a restaurant with a unique concept: not only can you enjoy fresh fish dishes, but there is also a large live tank inside the restaurant where you can catch your own fish, and then enjoy eating it!
The restaurant is located about a 3-minute walk from Kintetsu Nippombashi Station in the center of Osaka Prefecture!

Regional Characteristics

Osaka Prefecture is a city in Japan that is well known by many people, and is on a par with Tokyo. There are many tourist attractions in the prefecture, and all of them are attractive, but here we will introduce Dotonbori, the kitchen of Osaka, which is visited by many foreign tourists and is a place that can be enjoyed by families and individuals alike, and which you should visit at least once if you are visiting Osaka!
Dotonbori is a lively street with twinkling neon lights, where you can enjoy delicious food, photo-friendly spots, and entertainment to your heart’s content!
A must-see spot is the Glico sign. This huge sign towering over the river is perfect for photos. It’s a photo spot that lets people know at a glance that you’ve been to Osaka!
Also, along the highway, you will find a whole line-up of Osaka’s gourmet food. In particular, takoyaki, which is crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside, is a representative of Osaka’s gourmet food! You can enjoy piping hot takoyaki at many stalls and shops. Okonomiyaki, which is made with a batter full of cabbage and covered in sauce and mayonnaise, is also a popular dish with foreign tourists!

Recommended Fishing Restaurant

Access

We would like to recommend the fishing experience at the “Fishing Restaurant ZAUO Osaka Namba” in Osaka Prefecture.
The access is very convenient, and it is about a 3-minute walk from Kintetsu Nippombashi Station in the center of Osaka. You can easily reach the fishing boat by train. It is a place that can be easily reached by train, and you can experience and eat at the same time in an indoor environment, so it is a place that can be recommended as a part of your trip, whether you go for the food or to experience fishing in a fun way.

Features

ZAUO is characterized by its huge fish tank, where you can fish from your own seat!
There is no other place but ZAUO where you can fish in an indoor environment that is cool in summer and warm in winter!
There is the most interesting experience of throwing a fishing line into the fish tank right in front of you and having the fish you catch cooked by a professional!
The staff at the restaurant will also work together to make you happy! Not only do they call out to congratulate you when you catch a fish, but they are also happy to politely give you advice on how to fish when you can’t quite catch it!

No worries for those with no fishing experience

If you are wondering, “I have never fished before, is it OK? If you have no fishing experience, please don’t worry. Fishing rod rental at this store is only 110 yen! It is a great experience for you and your family, especially for children!
However, depending on the store, you may not be able to catch the fish you are looking for because the fish are getting tired…in that case, please ask the store staff for tips!

From entering the store to starting fishing!

Reservations are required to ensure entry into ZAUO! (Reservations require Japanese, so please DM us if you wish to make a reservation! We’ll make a reservation for you!)
Once you enter the restaurant and are shown to your seat, you can either drop a fishing line from your seat, or you can tell the waiter what fish you want to target and he will guide you to your catch to begin!
Eating the fish you catch is exceptional, but waiting until you catch it can also make you hungry. You can order from the grand menu and fish while you eat!

What happens after you catch a fish?

Report your catch to the nearest waiter so that he or she can cook the fish as it is!
At that time, you can tell them how you would like to cook the fish so that you can eat it the way you like! For example, sashimi, grilled fish, boiled fish, deep-fried fish, and sushi. However, please note that only sushi is subject to a separate processing fee!

Points to note

Since the restaurant attracts many customers, it may be difficult to catch fish because the fish have outgrown the bait, or you may not be able to catch the fish you are looking for. It is better to go there with the feeling that you can eat a meal while playing in a comfortable environment!
You cannot return the fish you have caught. This is because the fish will be damaged. So, even if you don’t get the fish you are looking for, please understand in advance that you must eat the fish you catch.

For me personally, I still recommend that you go out for real fishing and have the fish you catch cooked at a partner restaurant depending on the species of fish!
Playing in the great outdoors is much more liberating and exciting, and most importantly, it is very exciting to see what kind of fish you can catch!
Fish in a fish pond are more expensive due to the limited variety of fish species and the management of the fish tank. If you want to enjoy the atmosphere, I recommend you to go out to the open sea and fish by boat to experience and enjoy the traditional Japanese fishing to your heart’s content!

Finally,

Japanese fishing culture is inseparably linked to food. We have introduced this restaurant as an unusual place where you can combine these two!
Although the species of fish are limited because the fishing is done in a fish tank, the experience of eating a meal while experiencing fishing in a comfortable indoor setting will surely add color to your trip.
Fishing, however, is a part of traditional Japanese culture where you not only catch fish, but also enjoy the refreshing feeling of being in nature and the fulfillment of getting your own food. If you come to Japan, I hope you will take a boat out to the ocean and enjoy fishing to your heart’s content!
After fishing, you can bring your fish to one of our partner restaurants and enjoy a meal of freshly cooked, delicious fish while enjoying conversation with your family and friends who fished with you today. I would like to propose such a luxurious experience that can only be experienced in Japan!
