Fishing: a traditional Japanese cultural activity known only to Japan experts
If you’re visiting Japan, why not try something a little more adventurous than the usual sightseeing?
Fishing is a traditional Japanese cultural activity known only to Japan experts.
A special experience awaits you in the beautiful waters of Kanazawa!
Regional characteristics
Kanazawa is a beautiful city facing the Sea of Japan, and is known for its delicious fish. There are also many tourist attractions, including Kenrokuen Garden and Kanazawa Castle, but you shouldn’t miss the Omi-cho Market, where you can find a wide range of fresh seafood.
One place you should definitely visit is the Nomura Family Residence, the site of a samurai residence. The fusuma paintings in the upper room and the swords and armor that have been handed down in the Nomura family are a must-see. It was introduced as a two-star attraction in the 2009 Michelin Green Guide Japon guidebook for foreign tourists. It was also ranked third in the 2003 Japan Garden Ranking by a US garden magazine
Recommended fishing boat
In Kanazawa, we would like to particularly recommend the fishing experience on the Usagimaru.
Access is very convenient. It takes about 20 minutes by taxi from the nearest station, Kanazawa Station.
Once you get on the fishing boat, you’ll find that the spacious interior is equipped with clean toilets, so you can enjoy yourself with peace of mind, even if you’re a woman or have children with you.
Even if you’re a beginner, you can participate without any worries, as there are rental items available. Furthermore, the captain will provide you with careful support, so you don’t need to worry at all.
Let’s start fishing!
The joy of fishing can be felt in the sea breeze, the pounding heart when a fish bites, and the sense of achievement when you catch a fish yourself. At Usagi Maru, you can try your hand at catching seasonal fish such as horse mackerel and rockfish. Even beginners can enjoy fishing easily, and you’ll feel as if you’ve become one with the sea.
After fishing, head to one of our partner restaurants!
Even after you’ve finished fishing, there’s something special waiting for you. You can take the fish you’ve caught to the Kanazawa Usagi izakaya in Kanazawa Katamachi, where professional chefs will cook it up for you.
Fresh fish dishes and delicious drinks
After fishing, you can get to the Kanazawa Usagi izakaya in about 30 minutes by taxi from the boat. It’s the ultimate luxury to be able to further enhance the excitement you felt from fishing with delicious food!
You can enjoy a variety of dishes, including fresh sashimi, delicious fried and stewed dishes, and more. The deliciousness of the fish you catch yourself is exceptional.
Finally
Fishing is not just about catching fish – it’s also about the sense of refreshment you get from being in nature, and the satisfaction of getting your own food. Why not make your day in Kanazawa special with a fishing experience on the Usagimaru?
