Hidden Akashi Treasure: Fishing Fun & Tasty Food Journey
Table of Contents
Fishing. It is a traditional Japanese culture that only those who know Japan well would know about.
If you come to Japan, why not try a traditional Japanese experience rather than just visiting tourist spots?
In fact, fishing is one of Japan's traditional outdoor pastimes. The experience of fishing in the beautiful ocean is a special pleasure known only to those in the know.
The fishing experience at “UOE” in Akashi Port, Hyogo Prefecture, is located just about a 10-minute walk from JR Akashi Station or 10 minutes by car from the Tamatsu IC. Here, you can enjoy a special day of catching fresh fish yourself, and then savor them at a partner restaurant in Osaka!

Regional Characteristics
Akashi is home to the iconic Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, the world’s longest suspension bridge, connecting Awaji Island and the mainland. Visitors can stroll around Maiko Park or explore the Bridge Exhibition Center, where the sheer scale of the bridge is awe-inspiring. In the daytime, the bright white bridge stands out against the deep blue sea, while at night it is beautifully illuminated. It’s not just a tourist attraction but also a local gathering spot where people enjoy walking, fishing, and relaxing. The bridge is a must-see landmark that represents Akashi.

Access
In Hyogo Prefecture, we highly recommend the fishing experience at UOE.
It’s only a 10-minute walk from JR Akashi Station, and about 40 minutes by train from Osaka. By car, it takes about 10 minutes from the Tamatsu IC with free parking nearby. This convenient access makes it perfect even as a short trip during your stay in Japan.
Features
The captain says, “I want everyone, whether they're beginners, have little experience, or are women, to enjoy fishing with peace of mind.”
Since opening, he has provided easy and friendly trips where you don’t need to bring anything with you. His warm personality makes the time spent on board very special.
You can also charter the boat to have fun exclusively with your group. Of course, shared rides are available too, but the idea is that chartering lets you share the excitement more closely. The captain and staff are very kind and explain everything carefully, so women and families with children can feel completely at ease.
Beginners need not worry.
If you're wondering, “I've never fished before, will it be okay?” — don’t worry.
At UOE, there is a full range of rods, reels, and other equipment available for rental, so even beginners can join hands-free. With a spacious deck and clean toilets, those unfamiliar with fishing can also enjoy the trip in comfort.

Let's start fishing!
The captain of UOE is fully dedicated to satisfying his customers!
The boat goes out to the bountiful Akashi waters, one of Japan’s best fishing grounds. Depending on the season, you can target yellowtail, Spanish mackerel, sea bream, cutlassfish, and even the famous Akashi octopus! Each catch is both exciting to reel in and delicious to eat.

After fishing, head to one of our partner restaurants!
After your fishing trip, head to “Umai Monoya Azuma” in Konohana-ku, Osaka, about 60 minutes by car from Akashi Port.
If you prefer public transport, it takes around 70–80 minutes by train from JR Akashi to Chidoribashi Station, followed by a short 5-minute walk.
Here, the chef will skillfully prepare your fresh catch as sashimi, tempura, or sushi.
If you feel the distance is a bit far, please reach out using the form at the bottom! I can also help find a closer restaurant near the fishing spot. And if you’re hesitant to contact the restaurant directly, let me know — I’ll be happy to arrange it for you!

Fresh fish dishes and delicious sake
The freshness of the fish means it has no unpleasant odor, with a glistening texture that makes your mouth water.
At Azuma, you can enjoy sashimi, tempura, and sushi made from the fish you just caught. Pairing it with sake or shochu makes for a truly memorable dining experience in Japan.

The sushi chef in Japan will cut up the fish you’ve caught and serve it to you!
Is there any greater luxury than being able to fully enjoy and experience Japan in this way? I don’t think so.
If you consult with the staff in advance, they can even prepare your catch as sushi. Be sure to enjoy Japanese culture and cuisine to the fullest!

Finally
Fishing is not just about catching fish — it’s also about feeling refreshed in nature and the joy of obtaining your own food.
Then, while reminiscing with your family or friends about the day’s adventure, you can enjoy your freshly cooked fish together.
This is a luxurious experience that can only be had in Japan!
