Catch & Eat in Toyooka: A Memorable Japan Experience

boat fishing

Fish with Hoyumaru from Tsuiyama Port, Toyooka. Easy access from Kinosaki-Onsen Station, enjoy fresh catch at partner Okonomiyaki Hoyu.

Fishing. It is a traditional Japanese culture that only those who know Japan well would know about.

If you come to Japan, why not try a traditional Japanese experience rather than just visiting tourist spots?
At Hoyumaru (Tsuiyama Port, Toyooka, Hyogo), you can enjoy a full-day trip: catch seasonal fish yourself and then savor them at a local partner restaurant.
Access tip: From JR Kinosaki-Onsen Station, it’s about 10 minutes by car/taxi to the port, with smooth access for visitors.

Regional Characteristics

Kinosaki Onsen is Toyooka’s iconic hot-spring town. Stroll in yukata between seven historic public baths, willow-lined canals, and classic wooden inns. It’s perfect before or after fishing—relax in soothing baths, explore quaint streets, and enjoy seasonal cuisine. Pairing a morning on the water with an evening onsen makes a uniquely Japanese day that’s easy, charming, and unforgettable.

Access

We highly recommend a fishing experience with Hoyumaru in Hyogo.
From JR Kinosaki-Onsen Station, it’s roughly 10 minutes by car to Tsuiyama Port. Free parking is available, making rental cars convenient too.

Features

The captain warmly says, “I want beginners, those with little experience, and women to relax and enjoy fishing with peace of mind.” Since opening, he has kept a hands-free, come-as-you-are style with friendly guidance. Charter trips are also available so your group can share the fun together, while shared trips are offered too. If anything is unclear, the captain and crew explain kindly—great for families with kids as well.

Beginners need not worry.

Even if you’ve never fished, you’re welcome! Hoyumaru offers rental rods, reels, and gear so you can join empty-handed. A spacious deck and clean restrooms mean first-timers and women can feel comfortable throughout the trip. From complete beginners to seasoned anglers, everyone can enjoy it with ease.

Let’s start fishing!

Morning trips generally depart around 8:00 and return around 15:00; evening/squid trips often run 15:00–21:00. Depending on the season you may target red seabream, rockfish, rosy seabream, grouper, tilefish, and in summer to autumn, squid. Every catch is exciting—and delicious!

After fishing, head to one of our partner restaurants!

After your trip, drive from Tsuiyama Port to partner restaurant Okonomiyaki Hoyu (Izumicho 14-25, Toyooka) in about 20 minutes by car/taxi. Bring your catch and ask for cooking options—nothing beats tasting what you just caught! If the restaurant is busy, they may not be able to accept same-day requests, so contacting them in advance is recommended. If you’d rather not reach out yourself, feel free to contact me and I’ll gladly arrange it for you!

Fresh fish dishes and delicious sake

The freshness means no fishy smell—the translucent flesh glistens and melts in your mouth. Watching chefs skillfully prepare your fish into sashimi or hot dishes is culinary theater and edible art at once.

The sushi chef in Japan will cut up the fish you’ve caught and serve it to you!
Is there any greater luxury than being able to fully enjoy and experience Japan? As far as I know, there isn’t.
If you consult with the manager in advance, it should be possible to have them make sushi for you!
By all means, please enjoy Japanese culture and sushi to your heart’s content!

Finally

Fishing is not just about catching fish – you can also enjoy the refreshing feeling of being in nature and the sense of fulfillment that comes from obtaining your own ingredients. Then, while reminiscing about the day’s experience and enjoying a conversation with your family or friends who went fishing with you, you can enjoy eating the delicious, freshly-cooked fish. This is a luxurious experience that can only be enjoyed in Japan!
Why not make the day you and your family or friends spend at Rinku Port Kita in Tajiri-cho, Sennan-gun, Osaka Prefecture, a special one by adding a fishing experience at JACK?
