A hidden gem in Yokohama: Fishing at “Dai-san Kamoshitamaru”

boat fishing

Fishing. It is a traditional Japanese culture that only those who know Japan well would know about.

If you come to Japan, why not try a traditional Japanese experience rather than just visiting tourist spots?
In fact, fishing is one of Japan's traditional outdoor pastimes. The experience of fishing in the beautiful ocean is a special pleasure known only to those in the know.
The fishing experience at “Dai-san Kamoshita-maru” in Yokohama is about a 15–16 minute walk from JR Negishi Station; by taxi or car it’s roughly 5–10 minutes depending on traffic.
Therefore, you can easily fit this activity into your travel schedule. Here, you can enjoy a special day of catching fresh fish yourself, and then savoring them at a partner restaurant!

Regional Characteristics

Sankeien Garden is a serene Japanese garden showcasing historic buildings relocated from Kyoto and Kamakura, seasonal flowers, and tranquil ponds.
Moreover, it is just a short ride from central Yokohama, making it very accessible.

Enjoy All Seasons

In spring, cherry blossoms fill the garden, while in autumn, fiery foliage creates a breathtaking view. As a result, visitors can enjoy the beauty of all four seasons in one place.

A Peaceful Break from the City

In addition, the garden provides a quiet space away from the city’s hustle and bustle. Therefore, if you are looking for a peaceful break during your trip, this garden is a must-see.

Access

In Yokohama, we recommend a fishing experience with Dai-san Kamoshita-maru.
Access is simple: about 15–16 minutes on foot from JR Negishi Station.
Furthermore, driving is convenient (paid parking available nearby), and a short taxi ride brings you to the pier quickly—ideal for fitting an adventure into your trip.

Features

The captain warmly says he wants “beginners, those with little experience, and women to relax and enjoy fishing with peace of mind.”
Ever since opening, they’ve focused on truly easy, hands-free trips—rentals and basic support included.
With the captain’s friendly personality, you’ll feel at home on board. Moreover, charter options are available for private groups, and of course shared trips run daily.
If you’re unsure about anything, the captain and crew explain kindly, so families and first-timers can enjoy the day comfortably.

Beginners need not worry

If you're worried about whether you'll be able to enjoy yourself even though you've never fished before, don't worry.
Dai-san Kamoshita-maru offers ample rentals—rods, reels, and more—so you can join hands-free.
In addition, the boarding area has restrooms and smooth flow, and with helpful guidance from the crew, even those new to fishing can relax and have fun.

Let's start fishing!

The captain of Dai-san Kamoshita-maru is totally dedicated to satisfying his customers!
Departures target rich Tokyo Bay grounds; popular trips include versatile lure fishing for seasonal species.
Depending on the season, you might catch yellowtail, Spanish mackerel, cutlassfish, amberjack, horse mackerel, and more—fun to catch and delicious to eat!
Consequently, every trip feels unique and exciting.

After fishing, head to one of our partner restaurants!

After fishing, head to Izakaya Haccho in Kawasaki.
By car or taxi, the journey from the pier area in Isogo typically takes about 20–30 minutes.
By public transport, go from JR Negishi to Yokohama, transfer to the JR Nambu Line toward Kashimada, then walk about 6–7 minutes; plan on roughly 50–60 minutes total.

From Catch to Cuisine

Bring your catch and ask the restaurant to prepare it—you’ll enjoy sashimi or cooked dishes made fresh from your own fish.
However, if the restaurant is busy, contact them in advance to confirm handling.
If you feel it’s a bit far, please contact me via the form at the end—I’ll find a closer restaurant that can cook your catch!
And if you’re uncomfortable contacting the restaurant, I’m happy to arrange it for you.

Fresh fish dishes and delicious sake

The freshness of the fish means that it doesn't have that fishy smell, and the fresh, shiny flesh is mouth-watering.
On the other hand, watching the chef prepare the fish is as impressive as tasting it.
The sight of the fresh fish being cut up by the chef's knife and transformed into sashimi is a wonderful work of art.

The sushi chef in Japan will cut up the fish you've caught and serve it to you!
Is there any greater luxury than being able to fully enjoy and experience Japan?
As far as I know, there isn't.
If you consult with the manager in advance, it should be possible to have them make sushi for you!
Therefore, please enjoy Japanese culture and sushi to your heart's content.

Finally

Fishing is not just about catching fish.
Instead, it allows you to enjoy the refreshing feeling of being in nature and the sense of fulfillment that comes from obtaining your own ingredients.

Shared Memories

In addition, it is a chance to spend quality time with family and friends.
For example, after fishing you can share stories over freshly cooked meals, which strengthens bonds.

Why Choose Yokohama?

Yokohama combines city convenience with seaside relaxation.
On the one hand, you can enjoy modern sightseeing and shopping.
On the other hand, you can step into nature by joining a fishing tour.
Consequently, this balance makes Yokohama an ideal destination for visitors who want both culture and adventure.
Ultimately, fishing with Dai-san Kamoshita-maru will give you memories that last long after your trip.
