Yokohama’s Hidden Treasure: Hands-On Fishing Experience
Table of Contents
Fishing. It is a traditional Japanese culture that only those who know Japan well would know about.
If you come to Japan, why not try a traditional Japanese experience rather than just visiting tourist spots?
In fact, fishing is one of Japan’s traditional outdoor pastimes. The experience of fishing in the beautiful ocean is a special pleasure known only to those in the know.
With “Kabatosimaru” at Kanazawa Port in Yokohama, you can enjoy a special day: catch fresh fish yourself, then taste them at a partner restaurant afterward!

Quick access: 5 min on foot from Seaside Line “Nojima-Koen” Station; shuttle available from Keikyu “Kanazawa-Hakkei.” By car, about 30 minutes from nearby expressway ICs (parking available).
Regional Characteristics
Hakkeijima Sea Paradise is a beloved marine resort in Yokohama’s Kanazawa area, featuring aquariums, rides, and seaside dining. Meet dolphins and penguins up close and enjoy evening illuminations after sunset. It’s perfect for couples and families, and easy to pair with a morning fishing trip at the nearby port. Spend the day by the sea: fish, learn, and then unwind with ocean views and casual food options before heading back.

Access
In Kanagawa (Yokohama), we recommend a fishing experience with Kabatosimaru at Kanazawa Port.
It’s a 5‑minute walk from Seaside Line Nojima‑Koen Station, and a shuttle is available from Keikyu Kanazawa‑Hakkei. By car, access from nearby expressway ICs is convenient; parking is available (about ¥300/day).
Features
The captain’s goal is simple: “I want beginners, first‑timers, and women to relax and enjoy fishing with peace of mind.” Since opening, Kabatosimaru has kept gear rentals ready so you can come hands‑free. The team is warm and helpful, offering friendly guidance and clear tips. You can charter the whole boat for your group or join a shared trip—either way, the crew’s kind personality makes for a comfortable day on the water for families and friends alike.
Beginners need not worry.
If you’re wondering “I’ve never fished—will I be okay?”, don’t worry at all. Kabatosimaru offers rod and reel rentals so you can hop aboard with nothing to prepare. The deck is spacious and the toilets are clean, so even those new to boat fishing can relax and have fun. It’s an easy, stress‑free first step into Japan’s fishing culture.

Let’s start fishing!
Kabatosimaru targets seasonal favorites like horse mackerel (aji), cutlassfish (tachiuo), sand whiting (shirogisu), rockfish, and croaker. LT‑aji and tachiuo trips are especially popular. Feel the thrill of the bite, enjoy the sea breeze, and bring back a memory you can taste!

After fishing, head to one of our partner restaurants!
After your trip, take your catch to our partner restaurant Izakaya Hatsunaga in Kawasaki’s Nakahara Ward. It’s about 45–50 minutes by car from Kanazawa Port, or roughly 1 hour by train (Keikyu to Yokohama → JR/Nambu Line toward Kashimada area, then a short walk).
Skilled chefs will prepare your fish into delicious dishes—sashimi, grilled, or simmered—so you can enjoy a restaurant‑quality meal made from your own catch.
If you feel it’s a bit far, please contact us from the Form at the end—we’ll find a closer restaurant that can cook your catch! And if you’re uncomfortable contacting the restaurant yourself, I’m happy to arrange everything for you.

Fresh fish dishes and delicious sake
The freshness means no fishy smell—just gleaming, firm flesh that whets the appetite.
Watching a chef transform your catch into beautiful sashimi is like seeing edible art take shape right before your eyes!

The sushi chef in Japan will cut up the fish you’ve caught and serve it to you!
Is there any greater luxury than being able to fully enjoy and experience Japan? As far as I know, there isn’t.
If you consult with the manager in advance, it should be possible to have them make sushi for you!
By all means, please enjoy Japanese culture and sushi to your heart’s content!

Finally
Fishing is not just about catching fish – you can also enjoy the refreshing feeling of being in nature and the sense of fulfillment that comes from obtaining your own ingredients. Then, while reminiscing about the day’s experience and enjoying a conversation with your family or friends who went fishing with you, you can enjoy eating the delicious, freshly-cooked fish. This is a luxurious experience that can only be enjoyed in Japan!
Why not make the day you and your family or friends spend around Yokohama’s Kanazawa area extra special with a fishing trip on Kabatosimaru?
