Fishing: a traditional Japanese culture known only to Japan experts

If you come to Japan, why not try a traditional Japanese experience rather than just visiting tourist attractions? One such experience is fishing. Fishing is a traditional Japanese cultural activity that is known only by a limited number of Japan experts. At the “WAND” fishing experience, which is known only by those in the know and is located about 10 minutes by car from the JR Kashii Line “Ganenosu” station in Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, you can enjoy a special day of fishing for fresh fish yourself and then enjoying the freshly caught fish at the restaurant!

Regional Characteristics

Fukuoka City is located in the center of Fukuoka Prefecture and is a city with excellent transportation links, including an airport and bullet train.
Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, which can be reached by train, is designated as an important cultural property of Japan, and you can enjoy its magnificent carvings and architectural beauty. You can feel its long history and deep culture, so why not take your time and stroll around, reminiscing about the history
The shopping street leading from Dazaifu Station to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is always bustling with tourists, and a variety of local specialties are sold there. In particular, the famous “Ume Gaemochi” (plum-leaf-shaped rice cakes) are sold at every shop along the way!
Fukuoka City is a place that really comes highly recommended for a trip to Japan, as it has everything you could want: good food, good sightseeing, and good experiences!

Access

What we would like to recommend in Fukuoka City this time is the fishing experience at WAND.
The access is very convenient, and it is only a 10-minute drive (taxi) from the nearest Kashii Line station, “Gan-no-su”. You can also easily reach the fishing boat by train. Since it is easy to get there by train, it is also perfect as a little adventure in between trips.

Features

The captain says, “Of course the catch is important, but I want to be a captain who is kind to beginners, so if you have any questions, please ask me anything!”, and the captain will teach beginners very carefully, so women and children can also spend time there with peace of mind.
And the features of the WAND boat are that it is 6.3 meters long, weighs 1.7 tons, can take a maximum of 9 people, is relatively compact, and can turn on a dime, making it popular with people who want to charter it!

Beginners need not worry

Again, if you’re worried about whether you’ll be able to enjoy yourself even though you’ve never fished before, don’t worry. WAND’s motto is to be a boat that is friendly to beginners. We have a full range of fishing rods, reels and other equipment for rent, so anyone can join in with ease, and even those who are not used to fishing can enjoy themselves with peace of mind.

Let’s start fishing!

The WAND captain is always thinking of ways to satisfy his customers!
The popular “Gomoku Tsuri” (fishing for a variety of fish) trips take you out to the nearby sea, where you can fish for a variety of fish. Sometimes you can catch large conger eels, which are also called “dragons”, giant squid, the king of squid, or sea bass, and there are many other delicious fish to be caught!

After fishing, head to one of our partner restaurants!

The fun of fishing continues even after you’ve caught your fish. Bring the fish you’ve caught on WAND to our partner restaurant, Yasunaga Suisan, and have them cook it for you! Yasunaga Suisan is located in Kasuga City, Fukuoka Prefecture, about 30 minutes by car from the fishing boat port. If you are using the train, get off at the nearest station, “Gan-no-su”, and head for “Kasugabaru” station. “An’ei Suisan” is about a 3-minute walk from Kasugabaru station.
You will be impressed by the skill of the professional chefs as they prepare the fresh fish you have caught into delicious dishes right in front of you

Fresh fish dishes and delicious sake

The freshness of the fish means it doesn’t have that fishy smell, and the fresh, shiny flesh is mouth-watering.
The sight of the fresh fish being transformed into sashimi by the chef’s knife work, combining the best of both worlds, is a wonderful work of art that you can enjoy with your eyes!

The simmered fish is a masterpiece of a dish that can only be made by a chef who knows fish inside out! The sweet and spicy sauce and the melt-in-the-mouth fish flesh intertwine in your mouth, making you want to drink some sake!
If you’ve come to Japan, you’ve got to try it!

Finally,

Fishing is not just about catching fish, but also about the sense of refreshment you get from being in nature and the satisfaction of obtaining your own food. Then, while reminiscing about the day’s experience and enjoying a delicious meal of fresh fish with your family and friends, you can enjoy the luxury of an experience that can only be had in Japan!
Why not make the day you and your family or friends spend in Fukuoka City a special one by adding a fishing experience at WAND?
